History:Pouilly Loche is a petit village that adjoins Pouilly Fuisse and offers a similar 100% chardonnay to Pouilly Fuisse. Not much Pouilly Loche is made but in the hands of a careful, small vigneron, the results can be better and less expensive than its better known cousin. When I first tasted Pouilly Loche-Domaine Clos des Roc in the context of many other wines from the region that I was considering buying, I was charmed and seduced. I kept going back to re-taste it. This un-wooded chardonnay is pure and clean on the palate. It is so concentrated that one might think it was raised in wood but no, there is nothing to obscure the crystal clear, focused chardonnay flavors.

Fresh, clean, pure chardonnay flavors, not as mineral-tinged perhaps as a fine Chablis, but not dissimilar either. Bright, penetrating with apple and lime notes, it is full, warm and inviting on the palate. And it’s interesting in a positive way.
