History:Winemaker and owner Francis Blanchet's domaine consists of 7.15 ha of vines. All of the vines used for his "cuvee silice" are situated in the quaint village of St. Andelain, which boasts the largest percentage of "silex" or "silice" soil in the entire Pouilly Fume appellation. 76% of his vines were planted in 1986 and the remaining vines were planted in 1993.
Francis Blanchet's property is located in Les Bertheau, the village
with the highest concentration of silex (silice) gunflint soil in all of France.
This gunflint (for which this cuvée is named) produces wines with high minerality.
Peter Vezan calls Francis Blanchet "an excellent
taster" which is high praise indeed. Francis is a
consultant to many of the major negociants from the region.
At his own estate, he produces wine which can age very long and yet still taste good when
young–a double whammy.
