Robert Parker (12/2005) - 95 points

Parker wrote, "This may be the finest Champagne house virtually no one has ever heard of. These traditionally made, wood-aged Champagnes include a luxury cuvee, the Grand Cru Ay Fut de Chene, which is reminiscent of Krug in a slightly less oxidized style. Full-bodied, and tasting more like a honeyed white Burgundy with bubbles than a Champagne , this is a stunning effort. The exquisite, full-throttle, truffle-scented 1996 is fresh, and loaded with concentration." This wine is HEAVENLY!

By Bruce Sanderson

"A firm, dense, dry Champagne , this has its complex flavors of ginger, spice, coconut and dried citrus wrapped up tight. It all hangs together seamlessly, despite a youthful freshness and reticence on the finish. This needs time. The proportion of grape varieties changes from year to year in this cuvee; Remi Krug looks for the growth, or village, the individual terroir and which farmer tended the grapes when composing the blend. Best from 2007 through 2012."

Robert Parker (12/2005)- 93 points

While I may not have previously heard of this Champagne house, I am well aware of them now. Parker wrote, "This may be the finest Champagne house virtually no one has ever heard of. The medium-bodied non-vintage Francois Hemart Grand Cru Ay (floral, chalky, citrus oil and peach blossom scents and flavors abound), this is one of the finest non-vintage cuvees in the marketplace." Parker is right. This superb Champagne, along with their "otherworldly" 1996 Henri Giraud Grand Cru Ay Fut de Chene-Rated 95 Points Robert Parker, is as high as you can expect to get from bubbly. Thanks to my son Gregg's friend, Simon, for tipping us off to this estate.

2004 Zinfandel- Robert Mueller Vineyards-Russian River
$29.99 net per bottle (regular price: $39.99)
$359.88 a case
91 pts-Stephen Tanzer

I've been selling Robert Mueller's wines since he started his winery in 1991. He now makes some of California's best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with lots of acclaim from various enlightened sources. He now offers a fabulous Russian River Zinfandel produced from very old wines. It has a deep, inky red/black color. On the palate it is complex, unctuous and silky with focused, concentrated flavors of blackberry confiture, blue berries and plums with a hint of coffee. This is a California wine that will age and improve, gaining additional complexity.

Stephen Tanzer in his "International Wine Cellar" reviewed this wine and wrote, "Deep red. Elegant red and dark berry aromas, with gentle spice and herb accents and bright minerality. Energetic, pure red fruit flavors show impressive precision, with a slow building spice note on the back. Turns sweeter on the finish with gentle tannins and impressive length. How old are the vines? 'Nobody is around who had anything to do with planting them' said Bob Mueller before telling me that they date back to 1915. 91 points"

Even a Francophile/Italophile like me can appreciate the purity and quality of this tasty, all American wine. I am proud and happy to enthusiastically recommend something domestic that distinguishes itself.

Bob is a perfectionist and is making world class wine that can stand with some of the best wines from anywhere, regardless of price.

Prior to getting into the wine business, Bob attended University of California at Santa Cruz where he majored in biochemistry. He worked briefly for Paul Mason and then enrolled at U. C. Davis where he earned his masters degree in Food Science in 1975. He has worked for Foppiano in Healdsburg, Krug in Napa and became senior winemaker at Perrelli-Minetti Winery in Delano, Ca. In 1981 he was hired as the Director of Winemaking at Souverain Winery in Geyserville. As well as producing hundreds of award winning wines for Souverain, he also directed their large custom crush operation.
